in string theory gravity is just the same al any other force

in more primitive theories, space time is a “background” on which the other forces move, and it is known there should be some gravitational back reaction on the spacetime, but any conventional attempts to incorporate gravity into quantum field theory have failed

For now, the big difference is that we haven't yet individuated a "graviton", or any form of force-carrying field, so we don't really know how gravitation is carried and affects matter, except for the evidence of its effects
If I understand correctly, the study of gravitational waves is underway, and successive detections could help advance this field

There's no gravitational screening, for one thing. This means you can't block gravity with anti-mass that anti-gravitates like you can block EM with opposite charge.
