What do bros? I just feel like I coasted through college without learning anything, and that all I did was just memorize formulas and that’s it. Don’t know anything about actual engineering and now I’m about to graduate. I feel like I don’t deserve it and will fail

i don't know if you are giving an accurate description of the situation, or underselling yourself. EE is a massive and complicated field. there is no end to cool things or ways to challenge yourself intellectually.

I've got a similar situation to yours
>Always be the genius smart kid.

Learning about converting AC to DC and vice versa as well as other types of power converters. I can’t really name the math off the top of my head but that was really a cool class and I never really thought about how devices need that sweet DC current to function properly (digital electronics) as well as learning how to convert analog to digital. Also learning about how they turn analog music signals into digital formats but i Barry remember anything from those classes, that’s pretty much all I know

I don’t think so, I see some other kids in my grade doing really complicated engineering projects on their own and I feel stupid that I can’t really do projects like those on my own

Except I'm even worse off than you, I never got an internship and I have a garbage GPA.
I'm praying I can just get a comfy excel monkey job somewhere but it's more likely I'll end up working the late-night shift at Taco Bell.

Yeah, unfortunately the reality of many engineering programs is that you can get through them by basically just memorizing stuff and applying basic algebra without actually understanding anything.

The good news is, you have the rest of your life to keep learning if you're still interested in doing so. Or you can just settle into a job where you'll only be applying a tiny fraction of what you supposedly learned anyway.

Impostor syndrome is EXTREMELY common. No one expects you to know everything. Engineering school is as much about what you learn as it is how to learn new systems. You'll be fine. The best thing you can do is to have a good resume. Use your career services and have them look over it. And remember: There are NO hard requirements in a job posting - they're just a wish list. As long as you understand what the core role is, apply.

This is all great advice. Also, remember that applying for jobs is a probabilistic event. Do it often, and not only are your odds better, but your new experience makes you a better applicant.

Unfortunately, fake it till you make it is a reality. You likely won’t get a job in EE if incompetent, but if you get in the door, you may be given a chance to improve.

Why? Because HR departments really don’t like hiring mistakes that require firing. And HR folks like to keep their jobs, too.

Regardless of grades getting an EE degree is a ticket to a comfy engineering job with a defense contractor or dod agency. Everyone can't get a job with Google or SpaceX but EE can always find something that pays decently in defense industry or any old-time industry like automotive, power utility, etc.

The people setting up curriculums and hiring profs/ grade school teachers are trying to make it so that EE is much more complicated than it needs to be.
I guarantee you, if you took a 60's EE course. everyone in your classes would actually learn the fundamentals of EE,
because you'd actually be tasked and graded with building complex functional circuits in class.
this would give you a real electronic intuition.
they stopped hands on learning in EE in the late 90's iirc, Sure you might have various oscilloscope labs,
but you're not going to get a solid intuition from school anymore

What I'm trying to say is, it's not just you two, it's more students than you might think.
even the kids that seem to know everything are struggling.
you two are seeing the effects of international student preference.

thats normal. engineering school is just a giant shit test to make sure you have the absolute bare minimum to not be a fuck up of an engineer and get people killed.
