I used to love this guy, but I can't stand him anymore. I subbed in high school in 2007 or 2008 when he was doing videos making fun of autistic creationists like VenonFangX. He did a tone shift around Gamergate and got obsessed with Anita Sarkeesian, but was still tolerable because he did loads of science videos too. But the 2016 election really fucked him, and then he grew the biggest hate boner for Elon Musk. I swear he wants to suck the guy's cock or something, like 2/3 of his channel content in the last 6 months are just 30+ minute Elon Musk rants.

I remember when NASA announced they were gonna try flying a small helicopter on the Perseverance Mars mission, and he posted this long video essay how it's never going to work because air pressure this and RPM that. A huge chunk of the video was just shitting on the engineers for being dumb enough to overlook such simple math that proves it's impossible.

He got on the Musk hate train due to Hyperloop. He was busting stupid kickstarter campaigns and saw similar magical thinking in Hyperloop. It was an easy target especially since so many IFLS! fan boys had gone insane for it like they did with Solar Roadways. Busting Hyperloop was fine because the plan released by Musk was full of engineering problems and the IFLS! crowd immediately went into "NANANANA CAN'T HEAR YOU" mode when those problems were brought up.
But he couldn't ignore the huge bump in views videos related to anything Musk gave him. So to keep that going, instead of sticking to busting stupid things like Hyperloop, he went after anything Musk related so he could get the views. Actual science and engineering based debunking was no longer the main goal, getting views to fill up his bank account was.
Had Musk never released the Hyperloop whitepaper, Phil likely never would have made the jump from kickstarter critic to Musk "hater" (doubt he really hates Musk but there's lots of money in pretending he does).
