Is college a fucking scam? The majority of my time spent to finish my associates was focused on bullshit general ed and ethnic studies requirements.

And now I'm reviewing the necessary courses to receive my bachelors, and at least 1/3rd of this shit is "upper division general ed". I am pursuing a STEM degree.

Fuck college, I'm done with this shit

Running into the same problem at my California college. And now with all the corona bullshit and the completely online classes we have to take (which are absolute dogshit), it seems completely pointless to go the traditional college route.
There are countless fully online options out there with more flexibility. Excelsior, Thomas Edison State, etc. will let you fulfill degree requirements with credit by examination such as CLEP, DSST, and IB, as well as their own tests.
Theoretically, you can finish a bachelors in a year or two depending on how motivated you are.
You won't have to sit through a semester of learning Black People Heritage or whatever the fuck, just take a CLEP exam on Diversity Studies that takes less than a week to study for and be done with it.
Another problem though is that you probably wont find an online degree program for a high-level STEM area. However, once you do have a BS in whatever area, you could jump into a Masters which can lead into a PHD in any area you want anyway.
Look this stuff up, no need to wreck yourself, there are always other ways around bullshit.

No college is not a scam because many companies use college as a hiring filter. For example if you want a cushy high-paid engineering job for a defense contractor or dod agency they generally don't hire without a bachelors degree at least.

No, it isn't, at least not usually. Are you pursuing a BA degree? They usually sacrifice some depth for more breadth, but are less common in the harder sciences and almost unheard of in engineering.

Even if they didn't it would be difficult. I had a technician apply for an engineering position, I turned him down for his poor understanding of theory - he could execute a design but couldn't create one. It can work, hiring someone without a degree, but it rarely makes sense to take the risk. Besides, if someone can't tolerate college they probably can't tolerate the fucking job.
