It is a descriptor which says "this is empty" that only applies to things far less complex than the universe like boxes or wallets. The universe, likely being infinite, cannot contain "true nothing" at any point.
If you have an object, say a ball, and you speed it up to infinity in a contained circle, it disappears. It's theoretically still there, but inconceivable, immeasurable, and uninteractable. This is time, and thus is the perceived "nothing"; always true infinity. There is never "zero", and that is why division by zero is impoosible; the answer is infinity. Always is.
