Women already have difficulty birthing babies despite the baby being flexible. Now imagine giving birth to a rigid, giant egg.
The female pelvis would need to be much bigger.
But yeah, from an efficiency standpoint, laying an egg and not having to carry a baby for 9 months where you can't do almost anything productive would be much better.
