Thing is, it worked. My peraonal postulation is that the whole deception and "power of the mind" thing is bullshit. I think placebo can be ethically sone by encouraging people to have faith/trust in a thing and the rituals like taking a pill out of a bottle can also help.
I feel that the mind over matter placebo shit will go the way of bloodletting and the four humors soon, and the only reason it really persists as is is because it's interesting and comforting to believe its real and not simply the power of painful negative thoughts vs healthy positive thoughts combined with mundanene things like Pavlov's effect.
Basically, we let pseudoscience sneak under the radar.
