Present your ideas for the ideal education system for children and adolescents for the best learning and formation of a good person, whatever that means to YOU, we'll leave college out for simplicity sake. You system has to be realistic and capable of implementing if you had the power to do so.

Pre-Grade School:

Grades K-5:

Summer following 8th grade:
>mandatory military-style boot camp
High School:
>more electives
>mandatory statistics class
>mandatory personal finance class
>mandatory world religions survey class

None of this is particularly feasible without massive investment and a social shift away from treating school like government subsidized daycare.

Grade school: 9-3
Middle school: 8-3
High school: 8-4
Each with more daily breaks throughout.
No more summer break, either.
I'd want to see four 10-week terms with 3-week breaks after each one.

Current school hours are bloated as fuck just to achieve the daycare status other anon was talking about.

- Elementary school should focus on basic numeracy, literacy, and most importantly socialization. MAX of 4 hours per day. Anything more than 4 hours behind a desk or in structured exercises completely shits on boys and how boys learn. The current system is heavily biased towards girls and that shit needs to stop.

-high school should be structured much more like college and, once again, have its hours cut. Even as a student of engineering I averaged less than 4 hours of class time per day in college, and that was with labs. The current HS regimen is full of unnecessary bloat. More focus on practical life skills such as finances, how government works (especially at the local level), and conflict resolution.

The glorified daycare system that is the current US public school system is repugnant. Kids need more time with friends and family.

Design the rest of the system man, schedules, teachers, hours, activities, material, etc etc etc don't be vague with ideas. I get your point, but the rest of everything else is unknown.
The only way you can change the system for the better is to first have all the ideas and then pick the best things, you can't do that without rigor. I want to know what YOU value and what YOU want to see, all of it though, this should also force you to think about large systems instead of just saying "We need this because I read it somewhere".

I plan to have 4 children, so here's how I would like them to be thought and to teach them:

1. The school should be managed by a private entity. Public education (by the state) only results in indoctrination.
2. Kids set how much time they want to spend learning as soon as they have the cognitive capacity to do so.
3. Kids are able to socialize as much as they want.
4. Teachers get their knowledge tested every year to see if they are up to date and if they haven't forgotten about what they've learned.
5. Kids decide what they want to remember and be tested accordingly.
6. Kids choose what they want to learn. They'll forget about it otherwise.
7. Teachers must know and explain every perspective there is on something so that kids can make an informed decision on what to believe.

Finland is the country closest to meeting this criteria.

TL;DR: Autodidacticism and being exposed to all schools of thought/views on a particular topic are key.

Current subjects get a more abstract and theoretical approach, some get merged.

New subjects:
Expression (Dance, Art, Theatre, Composing)
Technical Design / Tinkering (Algorithm, Circuits, Robotics)
Philosophy (Because peers and parents really suck at it)

Dropped subjects:
Religion (Might aswell read any other book out there)
Chemistry (Just mention it in physics)
Music (See expression)
Informatics (Just mention in maths)
Geography (literally fixed by Google maps)

Redesigned:
History, ffs stop going into details. I know fucking details about some amount of exported oranges, yet I have no idea what happened in the whole of russia whatsoever, also include politics because it's literally the same.

The UK system of education is pretty close to the ideal in my opinion. The great filtering happens at the age of 12 which is pretty neat in my opinion. However it is not impossible to catch up.

>begin teaching theology and philosophy after kids are confirmed (everyone will be Catholic after all)

I even think 17-18 is too young to be choosing a career to pour EVERYTHING into. You can study things you like throughout childhood independently of course, but wait to pour everything into a subject.
