This is wrong. The human eye can distinguish between orange, blue, red, green, yellow. That is five colors, which is more than three.

It's kind of cool that that [1,0,0], [0,1,0], [0,0,1] are only three vectors and yet we're able to represent all 3 element vectors as a linear combination of those three vectors.

yes, math is an abstraction of information the exact same way color is an abstraction. colors aren't real, only wavelengths of light and their combined waveforms are real. Color is how our brain makes the distinction make sense. Like imagine instead of seeing colors everything you saw is just labeled with its three values of color. It would be painful and not nearly as implicitly useful having to read the exact data of qualia in order to process it.

If you only had one type of cone cell, say, the blue one, it'd still react to a range of wavelengths, but you'd only be seeing shades of blue.

The fact that a whole range of wavelengths may trigger it, doesn't imply that you'll see all the hues associated with those wavelengths the way you would if you had all three types of cones. If you consult your own picture here >>13621940, it should be clear that you will only see one hue, because all those different wavelengths would merely be triggering the same input at different intensities.

>area C is all one solid color, not even any changes in lightness
>area D is the entire transition from yellow to red for me, if the difference in lightness between yellow and red weren't there, it'd be significantly harder to distinguish

You don't "perceive three wavelengths". In terms of color information, your eye sends signals to the brain in three channels. If you only received signals from one, you'd be seeing only one hue.

This post is nothing more than pathetic reaching. Higher that’s 420? do make the short wave receptor react and trigger cyan or green color recognition. There’s no single color colourblindness exactly because of that.

I find it interesting how obviously this shows that the green and red cones are just a mutated copy of each other, and that the actual colors you see are much more complicated

basically green is an imaginary color combination of all three cones, red is a combination of two yellows where L is dominant, and cyan is a combination of two yellows that doesn't require blue at all.
