I suspect this is the reason why no single 'method' or game for increasing IQ was ever proven to work. This process is long and uses much energy which people generally don't want to invest.
In this sense, dual n-back can help, but mostly to get you familiar with that feeling of 'forcing' your brain. It's also supposed to train working memory, which is correlated to IQ to a decent degree, so it's a more general game than many similar types.
