Mammalian females are literally meant to be controlled, things fall apart if you give them free choice because evolution didn't mean for them to have free choice.

Birds are like this right now, they are less sexually dimorphic and invest more energy into their offspring than we do. They also have more advanced brains that do more with less energy.
