Do you guys understand the principles of surveying? Like differential leveling, bearings & azimuths, applied trig..

Just buy a trimble gps base station + rover and let the data collector do all of the thinking for you. Also, make sure not to break any of the flimsy plastic parts.

I assume you are just doing shit with degrees/minutes/seconds, correct? If yes, then your calculator should have a d/m/s button that you can use to convert your azimuths. Let me know if you get stuck.

I once wrote a program to calculate distances, height and depth, of different features seen in a photograph. It used a lot of 3D trigonometry which was basically handled with linear algebra.
At the time i thought i could develop that into a 3D scanner and that i could then scan buildings and cars and planes and shit and feed the coordinates to a computer and make 3D models for games and animation, but then i abandoned it for some better project.
