Seeing how numerous other species are exterminated unwillingly and with greater ecological consequences, how about we actually get rid of something worthwhile such as all the various common pests?

We already genetically engineered mosquitoes such that they wouldn't be infected with dengue or malaria. If we released them since this this trait is dominate without negatives it would take over the population and end dengue and malaria.

IIRC the engineered males would make the females sterile but because of the short lifespan we couldn't produce enough males to actually make a difference.
The catch with any genetic attack is you need it to be passed on to be effective and for it to be passed on it can't reduce survival rates much.
