there is no debate, no person wants to accept their inferiority or accept that their superiority is mostly due to luck so everyone makes up different theories to feel better. Intelligent people can feel that their actions were the most important factor that lead to their success, average people can feel that they "have a chance" and bellow average and cognitively impaired are overlooked or treated as "special cases". imo, this debate is ongoing because people learned about IQ and psychometrics surrounding it but they weren't ready for that and they can't accept it.
