HOWEVER
There is a grain of truth here.
The on board Apollo computer had about 4k of program memory.
This meant that a single programmer could analyze errors and quickly propose solutions.
The Apollo astronauts used the machine instructions directly, knew each OP code by heart and knew the system back to front.
This SIMPLICITY was part of its elegance and allowed mankind to achieve the seemingly impossible sooner than later.
So yeah, simplicity was part of the solution.
