We do not have enough water, food, good soil, and energy to support our current population. Technology is all well and good but it cant create more non-renewable resources out of thin air.
The main reasons for near term socital collapse:
-severe global warming
-EROI declining to zero for oil
-Running out of potable water
-declining agriculture output
-catabolic collapse
Essentially we have created an economic and social/political system that is predicated on infinite growth. once that growth stops we are fucked. timeframe for this is within decades imo
