First year physics major getting filtered by proofs.
How do I stop this? How do I come up wirh proofs on the fly?

P.S What other STEM degree doesnt require writing proofs?

As a physicist, you don't need proofs. Proofs are gay. Just run some computational experiments and say that the convergence of the series is an empirically attested 5-sigma law of nature.

If you want to become anything else than a theoretician, don't bother with proofs. You won't need them. If you want to become a good theoretical phycisist though, take some proper math classes. This forces you to do a lot of proofs, and honestly getting solid at writting proofs really just takes a lot of practice. Also, learn some basic logic. Books like "Book of Proof" by Richard Hammack or "How to Prove it" by Daniel Velleman which get shilled here often are a nice and easy introduction to "mathematical thinking"; they give you something to start with.

why is OP pic the first thing that comes to mind when people say they are getting owned by their first proofs class? is it really so different from computing integrals and derivatives? you just need to be good at fucking around with the symbols to make the inequalities go the direction you want.

how is that different from "proving" the value of some obnoxious integral that requires a trig substitution? either you know the manipulations to get what you want or you don't. if you struggle then work on your inequalities skills with practice, much like how in calc you'd do shittons of integrals to get better.

If you claim you know what's going on mathematically there, you should be able to explain it down to the smallest detail. Otherwise you don't understand it.
