However, I've made several threads on /pol/ that went to bump limit where several people shared their stories about doctors basically ignoring the plan and trying to do whatever they wanted, or successfully clamping the cord immediately after delivery even when they'd specified otherwise. So as one might expect, the risk of them not doing it right and not doing what you thought was agreed upon, is always there. Seems to me you're best off consulting with an experienced midwife (get a second and third opinion basically) and try to find a low stress environment with people you can actually trust.
The whole gist of cord clamping and placental transfusion condensed is that there is no "timing", there is nothing to time. You just wait until it's done. You don't actually have to ever clamp or sever the cord, it'll dry up and fall off on its own. Can't comment on the real world factors influencing risk of infection or whether this has any actual benefit, but I knew a family who did this with their 4, maybe even 5 kids now. n=1, but didn't harm them.
