When I defended my thesis it was just me, my professor, and my committee. I brought in Panera bread bagels and coffee for the table, we sat down, I defended my thesis, answered questions, stepped out of the room for 15 minutes, came back in and was told I passed. No clapping, no pictures, no funny stories. What the heck is going on in "science" these days?
