Unironically same especially when you learn that like 20 hold down clamps on the launch table have to successfully clear out of the way in seconds otherwise even a single late clamp will hit the rocket as the engines underneath blast it upwards

The clamps attach near the base of the Super Heavy - ABOVE - the engines, that's a recipe for one massive RUD on the launch pad if they don't time it right for each and every clamp release

I'm willing to bet the following things:

1. The launch mount is too low to the ground. This results in a feedback of the thrust into the engine bells, damaging the engines in the process

2. When the clamps released, part of the rocket's hull came loose and from the exhaust thrust bouncing back, gave it enough force to slam into the fuel tank

3. This perturbation created potentially a fuel bubble

4. That bubble destabilized the ignition process and caused an engine failure

5. That engine failure led to that entire engine exploding and failing

6. That led to an asymmetric thrust and the flight from thereon was doomed.

Everything can be attributed to the fact that the exhaust from the engines is TOO FUCKING LOW with respect to the ground. They literally fucked their own flight before it left the mount.

Overall this launch proved to me how flexible specially gimballed stages can be. I mean the initial recovery was phenomenal and it boggles my mind that this thing even made it this far. I could have seen and accepted anything and everything on board of that thing saying fuck no and making it just shoot off into the ocean there. From the software not being flexible enough to grasp what the fuck is happening, over the tanks rupturing, the gimbals being too small... any subsystem becoming inoperable by the gravity change to shrapnel from the initial damage being catastrophic in the very same second it happened.

I guess the correctors during the launch already burned through the reserves and then some but I would be very interested if they could have babied it higher with hindsight and the trial and error of, let's say "a quicksave"...
and how high they could have gotten it if it survived a more throttled, gentler maxQ

I Believe it's as Scott Manley said, that they wanted to stay within the first exclusion zone. The rocket didn't seem to have trouble flying as it was reaching maxQ.

They have two exclusion zones downrange. So maybe they wanted to hit the closer one. Don't know why, i don't expect the rocket to survive the impact, but maybe they need to cleanup a bit and i guess it's cheaper closer to shore. Otherwise they could've just let it burn all the fuel and see what happens.

I am still amazed how unscathed the ascend looked after it ripped off a clamp and lost an engine. I bought the dip without a blink.

I'm not a clamp engineer but we are talking about launchpad parts and you can easily build in redundancies and synchronization enforcing mechanisms to account for a 100 clamps if you wanted to. It's a single action process after all.
