lots of different kinds of compression both lossy and lossless. most obvious lossy example is over a hundred million rods in ur eye but only a million optic fibres, so your brain compresses the information before it reaches your optic fibres. lossless compression when you read a sentence because your brain can parse the meaning of a sentence and construct it perfectly without needing to know exactly what the exact sentence was

I assume it's very lossy (baring savants) and stores stuff as abstract, nebulous concepts that use parts of or are entirely relationships of already stored information.

You can fit 2TB of data on a MicroSD card. Just because the data is in a small space doesn't mean there is data compression going on.

That doesn't necessarily lead to a "compression algorithm" (which would probably not be sufficient by itself anyway). Long term you might just be preserving a few key details and then reconstructing and/or imagining the rest. That would at least fit better with what the experience of remembering is like to us.
