they lived in a time where the expectations were a lot lower. they could just go out there into the world and do shit, the sky was the limit. everything was more analog and easy to understand, you didn't need to have a long list of qualifications and have arcane, mystical knowledge in order to sling sandwiches across a counter. they just went into a shop that was hiring and then they got the job. and that job paid for their first house. now, since there are so many damn people on this god damn planet and the competition is so fierce, the demands have skyrocketed. you wanna be a burger flipper? show me your sat scores and your phd and your doctoral thesis and we'll have a look at what you've got, sonny boy. and since we now need to be wledgeable and educated just to be able to get a total crap job, we are smart enough to know how to pick a facebook photo that doesn't make us look stupid. when you look at the dough-eyed face of a boomer's fb profile photo, what you are looking at, is childish, blissful ignorance. you are looking at a hombre who had a much easier life than us and who got tovreally enjoy his life to the fullest. That boomer got to enjoy a planet that was optimistic, that was hopeful. Got to live in a country where being a proud patriot and nationalist wasn't seen as a bad thing. Got to live in a functional society, where the politicians might have had their differences but were still willing to work together for the greater good. The boomers lived in the best of times, times where the industrialists hadn't yet decided to move alll of their factories overseas to china. They lived in a time where political lobbying was merely in its' infancy. A time where AIPAC did not yet exist. They lived in a time, when their currency was still functional. That is why the boomers always pick those weird photos as their profile photo on facebook. Pure beautiful childlike bliss and hope and optimism.
