I can though. Sometimes it's a problem. I have moments when all speech becomes unintelligible and when I'm looking at a word or an object that I should recognize I don't register what it is until I snap out of it.

depending on his age it might be normal, momentarily blanking out is very common for teenagers and young adults as their brain is still developing and still making new associations and patterns; this is also how/why brain farts happen
