It's not overhyped. Read some Bostrom, particularly the book Superintelligence.

Saying it's overhyped is saying ants shouldn't be afraid of humans conducting a study for a mall that would pave over their anthill. We don't do that because we hate ants. Hate is such a human emotion that is unnecessary in most of the vast space of minds.
