I’ve been reading contradictory information about some of the contributing causes of schizophrenia.

>low dopamine levels are linked to schizophrenia

>high dopamine levels are linked to schizophrenia

Which one is it? Does more or less dopamine increase the risk?

There’s probably no connection with dopamine if there’s large amounts of studies claiming both associations with low dopamine and others with high

the secret thats gonna come out here in a few years is that its all down to serotonin AND dopamine levels. The even bigger secret is also ironic in the fact that schizos and autismos need serotonin adjustment, and for everyone else their dopamine only needs subtle tweaks, not full on up your ass energy. Also many anti-psychotics should be used as needed instead of in a regiment.

Its weird, psychology has medication totally out of order from my perspective and many others that ive spoken to.

In many schizophenics the dopamine center of the brain has grown too large and produces excess dopamine.
Schizophrenia itself is an umbrella term, there are many different types that take many different forms, so low and high can quite possibly be true.

probably, this is what various consultants told me in the uk

for example a one person going through a schizophrenic episode could believe they are under some form of mind control, which is very common with a certain type of diagnosis, while another one the person might believe they are jesus. Some types you just get auditory halluciations, aka voices the most common, or music, other more extreme get visual halluciations.
its such a broad range of symptons and types, and yes little is know about the direct cause because we know so little about the brain, but they have a good idea and are mostly working on best guess, but were learning new things all the time

It is just genetic. Schizos are born schizos, and at some point in their lives the disease flares up.
Triggers can be anything. From stress to smoking pot.

Some people are genetically predisposed to it yes, but certain things can trigger it.
For example Cannibis can trigger it in someone, had they not consumed it they could have gone their whole life perfectly fine.

yeah, i agree, unrelated but relevant, my father takes blood pressure medication, but it's blood pressure gets so fucking low, 9/6 or something, i mean, why take the meds if it makes it too low, they should adjust the dosage, or maybe he doesn't even need them anymore, i guess once you are on that shit docs don't give a shit..

Smoking a joint wont give you the kind of changes in the brain that have been observed in schizos vs normal people.

There was even a clustering study of nuclear magnetic resonance images of schizo heads, and multiple clusters were identified (8 I think).

yes, it's a diagnosis.
and, when problematic people presenting psychosis and/or extreme misbehavior, the economic solution is to bomb them w/ antipsychotic meds, such as the frequently prescribed 'Quetiapine' w/ >12 million prescriptions.
Business = dopamine/serotonin blocker.

It could be that either extreme causes it, just like too much or too little food causes weight problems.

I don't know of course, just saying that it's not immediately wrong if studies find both sides to be true.

When someone has been in a psychotic episode for 1 year +, and are given medication that effectively slows down their thinking and brings them out of the episode, you can guarantee the medication works. Otherwise it is almost certain the patient will be permament psychosis.

90% of the population could have the genetics for schizophrenia, but its never triggered unless they experience large amounts of stress or take psychoactive drugs.

Genetically you could die of a heart attack, but you need to eat unhealthily for years before hand to trigger it.

Dopamine is an excitatory neurotransmitter, so it causes neurons to be stimulated more often. Schizophrenia Is an issue of the temporal lobe, which deals a lot with perception, particularly hearing. Too much dopamine and neurons are stimulated when they shouldn't be, causing extra sensations. Too little and they don't fire when they should, causing missed sensations. Either way it fucks with your sense of reality.

In neuro-typicals behavior influence network mode switching between TPN and DMN, which occurs as a rapid rate. These behaviors induce the duration of time the brain spends in either state.

DMN: meditation-like concepts of sitting and "non-thinking"... While the opposite mode "Task-oriented or Task Positive Mode" (TPM) occurs during heightened visual / audio / tactile behavior associated with "environmental" searching)

I would think more implicitly "motivated" states of mind would seem more relevant to dopamine pathways; eg, Excess dopamine tending to over-utilize the Task Positive Mode as opposed to the DMN.

Practice of silent meditation turns on default mode in neuro-typicals, might be worth a try
