Discrimination in lending based on membership in a protected class isn't only illegal in the most childishly obvious way you're implying. It's also illegal to use any data that are correlated. For example, it's trivially easy to correlate the applicants address with demographic statistics. So, it's also illegal to make credit decisions based on zip code.

To be clear: this is how it works in the United States. Places like the UK on the other hand are extremely permissive with respect to the type of data you're allowed to use in your credit model. Companies like HelloSoda aggregate social media posts from all platforms, tie them to a single identity, and analyze things like profanity, grammar and grade level. Lenders in the UK have been using social media information like this for credit decisions for years. The type of information you're talking about in the OP is probably legal to use there.

US laws can and will be changed the second Wall St decides it wants them changed. Its not as if Wall St isn't already dictating immigration policy and all sorts of other policy decisions and changes.
