I've had a similar experience working in the industry. While I won't discount the utility of software in validation, etc. The constrained applications of software are useless in spot checks - particularly when it is misapplied.

People and engineers are very stupid. I would contend that the saturation of stem with slovenly, uninspired scientists and engineers is actively eroding our species technological capabilities.

The best you can hope for is to catch a stupid mistake and correct it when they (business leadership included here) are desperate enough to be receptive. Take every chance you can get to apply meaningful knowledge when others submit to replacing understanding with contrived silicon-speak.
