As a climate scientist, honestly there is nothing surprising about IPCC report. They are very conservative and only take established science. Their report are all based on peer reviewed, published papers, which are in themselves can take months to a year to publish with challenging cranky reviewer. Even then they take the cutting edge publications and give them low or medium confidence unless there are additional studies backing and confirming the cutting edge publications. I'm seeing stuff that is reported in AGU, EGU, Goldschmit etc conferences back during my undergraduate days. These are at least 5 years out of date compared to state of science, with exception of some of the CMIP6 ensemble runs and the updated SSPs
