This is mostly due to the evolutionary pressure of a social species zero-sum game selection of gene propegation. Having to feel like you're better than someone is just human nature. It's the same reason why we have all these IQ threads and engineer Vs mathematician threads. You might be the on the lowest rungs of the societal, economical and social ladder but at least you're not black.
Maybe there is merit to their arguments, in fact there probably is, but the only reason we have 2 of these threads in the catalogue at any given time is what I wrote.
It would be nice having a thread about this interesting social behaviour instead but what can you do. Human nature is just one of those things we can't really do a lot about.
