i think there's a mathematical proof for rebirth like there is for intelligent life in the universe (drake equation). i don't know how to express it mathematically, but its premise is as follows.
there are essentially three numbers/sets that can meaningfully quantify events: zero (it never happens), infinity (it's always happening and will always happen), and every number OTHER than zero and infinity (it happens but can't be said to be infinite). taking this view it becomes apparent that the true spiritual conundrum has nothing to do with death, but with birth, and we can see that this same conundrum is answered quite simply and mathematically: it's not zero.
it's not zero. we know it's not zero. here i am typing to you telling you how it's not zero. and so immediately the pessimism boils up to say, "well that's no proof of what happens after DEATH! for all we CAN know you live only ONCE!"
and while this is phenomenologically accurate, it is actually mathematical an unreasonable assumption. because all we know is that it is not zero. and so the real question is, "what are the CHANCES, of all the numbers between zero and infinity that an event can happen, that that number is 1?"
imagine rolling a die with all the numbers between zero and infinity. what are the chances it lands on 1?
and remember, even if it takes an eternity it means nothing. they say 14 billion years passed before your birth, and that's just the time we can measure. what was your experience of it? so too will the ETERNITY of possibly universal cycles after your death be experienced: chances are you're just gonna wake up.
