If humans are just systems of matter that can replicate, albeit extremely efficiently and robustly, then i expect that we'll either stay on earth in homeostasis or promulgate throughout the universe eventually turning everything into humans - or whatever we want to represent as humans.

AGI won't need caretakers or handlers but as long as not one Singleton AGI dominates the cosmos the struggle between the different superintelligences will ensure a steady peace for all forms of intelligence. A obselete baseline humanity doesn't mean its extinction but sinply that the course of civilization design lies in other hands. I expect a different clades of minds that all design and develop fuether the reach of intelligence.
