In the late 1960s, William Tift was one of the young rising stars in astronomy, he was first in line for all the best telescopes and had the respect of the elder generation. However Tift then made the mistake of punishing observational evidence he had gathered from the big telescope that called into
question the conventional (at the time) model of the big bang and as a result Tift's career as a researcher came to a screeching halt, he was canceled via the peer review process, none of the committees that assign telescope time would give Tift the time of day because he has published the wrong observational evidence.
