No, but competing for the same finite resources would. When you play musical chairs everyday someone somewhere is going to be left without a chair. And when you accrue enough people who missed out on getting a chair you're going to start having social issues develop very quickly.

I will add that if convergent evolution was likely at all for any organism it would probably be more likely to occur for simple organisms in simple environments rather than complex organisms in complex environments.
