Still their battery life is tiny though. That and they need to have choreography for literally everything they do. So we're safe for a while I expect.

Yes.

You can simulate it all on the computer. Run millions of simulations until you get it right. Then upload the data onto the real thing. Then you'll only need to tinker very little.

this is what they compute onboard, they just tell them what to do on a keyframe editor, similar how to program spot

they use all sorts of tricks like topology optimization of parts, "simulated organic grown" parts they metal 3d print to reduce weight to a point their powerful actuators have no problems launching atlas into the air. one of these parts is exposed on its back. the balance between a solid structure which is as light as possible, and one which wont get torn apart by the hydraulics is what they try to optimize
