I think you probably can contribute to herd immunity by getting infected, and letting your adaptive immune system respond to the virus.
I don't know if we are at a point where the percentage of immune people is high enough to prevent hospitals from being overwhelmed.
I did see a video of some guy whose wife apparently had to go home early from hospital (instead of properly recovering from her procedure for cancer) because covid cases were overwhelming the hospital. So perhaps that is the angle they are pushing
I think it's probably also the left wingers stuck in their mantra of "the vaccine will end coronavirus", and "if it saves one life". Whereas the right wingers are stubbornly (read: autistically) sticking to their "individulism" and refusing to get a vaccine
I also am not yet vaccinated, since I haven't returned to campus yet, and I got covid last year. I expect the vaccines (except mRNA) to be safe, I just cant fucking be bothered to get the vaccine until i get an official antibody test
