>>13520426Because if you had enough money and time, like the US government, you too could build what essentially amounts to a gigantic fuel tank full of kerosene and liquid oxygen, aim it at the moon, ignite the fuel, and have it push you off of Earth hard enough that you could get all the way to the moon. The spacecraft they were using were so hilariously primitive compared to modern technology but they focused on robustness and it happened to work out.
