The electrical cars: he managed to overcome the oil lobby because of which nobody thought them possible at large (ford literally had to destroy the electric cars they only dared to produce but not to sell)
The private space flights: I think he was one of the first one who considred it possible, and his company definitely made many breakthroughs (even if he didn't invent any of those, that's not his duty in the first place, he's a genius in something bigger)
These two are enough to place him in between the greats of the past, but he doesn't stop and dreams on and what makes his dream special is his ability to make them true.
I may frown upon how he treated Eberhard, but that guy would n't make it, so who cares if our genius is not too nice as a person. Are you? I am not, and I don't know what happened between them: that guy probably wanted to keep control being not even close in the management skills, so everybody can get pissed, he also literally confessed that he likes Edisson more than Tesla, so he's at least honest about where he stands.
