They don't actually pay that well.

If you're an RA doing lab work, you'll realistically make 55-65k out of school, 75-95k by the time you make RAIII.

If you have a PhD and are doing lab work you'll get 95-105k out the door.

If you want more than that, you have to do codemonkey shit.

Also being an RA is a dogshit job don't do it.

Yeah but what happens in 10 years when your meme field is oversaturated, automated, and outsourced to Africa? (India is already oversaturated with CS codemonkeys, the next trends are outsourcing to Africa).
The RA who is earning 85k now will easily earn 200k + after 10 years, and the data scientist now will be lucky to have a job.

Yeah naw. I'm an Africa optimist but even I know that Africa is a last resort fo western companies because even if an African country does everything perfect a lotta businesses really don't like or care about Blacks as consumers or workers in general contrary to some token statements. It's why we have Chinese phones being more common in Africa because Westies refused to make phones that cater to the local market like camera's that are more adjusted to darker skin tones or UI in a local language. In Western business the stigma around Africa is still super strong.

CS will stay in Asia for quite a while
