It's not creative in the same way art is.
Art uses innovative ways to express concepts and emotions.
Math might do the same, but it's innovatiosn must fall under strict logical rules, and is void of emotion.
One of the central aspects of art, "total freedom", is tossed out the window in math, so calling math an art is really making the term for art useless.

It's cope. The biggest cope is that there is value in those degrees and that they foster unique talents. The reality is that there aren't people who are good STEM and people who are good at art, there are people who are good at both and retards. People who are good at both choose adult degrees like STEM, retards study arts and then try to promote the value of those degrees in business. The entire point of STEM was to be a shorthand for "degrees except Law and Medicine that have good employment prospects"; this is no longer true which is why the idea of STEM is slowly being replaced by "Tech degrees" (SWE, CS).

People that actually make use of music and art teaching and value it are academic or upper middle class who usually end up STEM. Art is not an alternative career for retards who suck at math and no amount of cope will make it so.
