I do not want to subject my children to the brainwash of modern day schooling
I do not want to subject them to solitude while rotting their brains away on a tablet or a phone screen
I want to show them the world, show them the people, teach them life and reality
However I also wish to give them a basic set of skills in math, biology, geology , theology, civics, chemistry, gastronomy, language and psychology

How does one learn to become a home school teacher? I have good basis of knowledge on me already.
I want to be there from them, every waking moment, to guide them on their way to a strong head start for when they become independent, not as a helicopter but a

You need to form a discrete home schooling community with like-minded people who share the same values and principles. The best homeschooling comes from a pool of educators who have particular strengths, talents and skills. Just one educator, yourself, is too limited. Much as I hate the modern term and its political connotations, diversity is desirable when applied in a homogeneous setting. By that I mean having teachers who can teach the same mathematics by using different methods, having one who knows a lot about the classics while another specialism in the arts. Having a couple of science teachers who can bring different angles to understanding and appreciating the same concepts. Having a pool of 6 to 12 educators would be ideal, especially so since the cost of sharing resources becomes less.

The key to success is getting everyone on board with the same basic aims. Running it like a business with stated objectives, what is not going to be part of your curriculum and what is. Being explicit and pruning from the group any one who wants to undermine your objective. Having regular appraisals of progress and making changes as needed to increase learning efficiency. Its not hard, but it takes time and commitment and most importantly strong community connection with people who truly value the importance of education. You dont want Mr and Mrs Joe Fuckwit who just want another baby sitting service for the kids they could never be bothered reading to.

Paying some lip service to some made up awkward religion is not a crazy idea. Anyone with a shred of intelligence will see its function is merely to serve as protection against outside interference and serve as a useful tool for keeping intruders out. Just for example, something like the Flying Spaghetti Monster church ( look it up ) might fulfill this aim.

I was just a kid I had no choice. I never had the meningitis vaccine that you're supposed to get in high school/college or any others after the age of 12.

My younger brother attended a private Catholic boarding school. The nuns that ran that place were beyond modern feminist liberal progressives of today, YET my brother is OK.

As a parent you can deprogram the worst of the teaching just by talking with your kids and explaining reality to them

i see you that you believe teaching your children your own way is going to give them a head start, have you considered the consequences on your childs social skills developpement when he is homeschooled, how is he going to build caracter,develop his social skills and learn how to establish healthy relationships with his collegues friends and peers ?

There's a contradiction in there. You're gonna end up showing them the stuff you don't want them to know, because that's an important part of reality.

The trouble with private schools are they are expensive. Horrendously so. Sending your children there also means you are essentially paying for their education twice. Once through your taxes spent on state schools, and then for the private school fees.

A new model of education should be possible through a charter school system. "Charter School" usually means some batshit insane religious teaching or whackjob values, but it need not be so. It could be a small school stripped bare of the bullshit and focused on traditional methods and traditional curriculum. No religion, no agendas, just basic education. Literacy, numeracy, science, applied skills.

Costs could be reduced significantly by applying the fundamental principle of a school as a learning center as opposed to the day care centers they have become. No sports, no extra curricular activities. That's the job of the parents. Discipline is simple. Constantly misbehave and the student is expelled. No ifs or buts.

Another way to reduce costs is through pure efficiency. State schools are notoriously inefficient. An efficient private school can teach in an hour what most state schools take and entire day to do.

I ran some numbers once. If the average family received a tax credit for the cost of state schools then most would be able to afford the fees charged by the bare bones schools I have described above. I believe the standard of education received would be significantly higher than provided by state schools.

The situation is highly dependent upon the quality of the community. It works well for motivated families who value education, no so well for those who do not. The model I described requires parents to be active participants in their children's education, socialization, extra-curriculum activities, for at least one or two hours a day.

And have faith in them. Think back when you were a kid. They are not as stupid as you tempted to think. Teach them while also remember that they are their own individual with their own reasoning

Start studying now anon. Also read up on good textbooks and curricula to use. I was homeschooled by my mom from first grade up through high school, now in a STEM Ph.D program. Through 8th grade I had a boxed curriculum which she was able to use good results. High school was a mixed bag. We pretty much freestyled the humanities and social sciences, but I used my friends’ secondhand AP books to study for the APs I took, and I took dual enrollment classes at a local college for physics, psych, and calculus. If you wanna help your kids with the science and math, you better start studying now. I did the best in AP Bio out of all the sciences I took in high school, for the simple reason that my mom had been a nurse and she took 2 years to teach me the subject comprehensively instead of in one or two semesters like public schools try to do. Chemistry (which I ended up getting a BS in later) was extremely rough because she was less confident in it and I had to teach myself out of a textbook; my siblings she had take college chem 101 in dual enrollment. My intro to calculus classes was similarly rough cause she had me teach myself trigonometry from a workbook. But I think I turned out okay in the end, academically speaking. The one thing is, homeschooling was my mom’s way of avoiding getting me diagnosed and treated for ADHD, and I struggled a lot without that support system in undergrad/grad school until I got diagnosed and treated.

Also, you want to be able to work from home or have someone else support you. And make sure your kids have some extracurriculars and social outlets. My parents were pretty good on that point, but a lot of my peers were extremely awkward.

As far as indoctrination goes…I never considered myself “indoctrinated” any which way by my mom, who was neither conservative nor liberal/leftist. I still turned out trans and bisexual entirely by myself. So just recognize that some shit will be out of your control. At least I can do math.
