>DOES CHINA HAVE SECRET TECH?!?!?!No, it's shit that Germans, Japanese, and Americans invented nearly a century ago. China isn't even the first one to invest in them, high-speed maglev trains exist all over the world. They just dump the most money into them and continue to invest.
It's not hard to be the absolute best at something when have a state-driven monopoly on technology, brains, and resources. This is *precisely* the reason that the US was the powerhouse of science it was in the 1950's and 1960's, easily shitting on the entire world - because we had a state-driven scientific and research industry that threw ridiculous money at mathematicians, physicists, and chemists - just so we could say we were better than the Russians, and boy fucking were we - and we built the whole fucking world we all now live in. Damn near EVERYTHING you interact with on a daily basis was invented in National Labs at some point between 1950 and 1975.
The entire reason we're falling behind is precisely because the U.S. government looked at the success of private telecoms in developing the internet and felt it was reasonably to leave the future care of the US's technological might to fucking engineers and """""developers"""""" in private industry, conveniently ignoring that the people making those massive steps in private industry in the 70's and 80's were just former National Labs employees who left once the space race was over and the U.S. was drawing back its funding of the sciences because we Beat Communism™.
China is implementing exactly the same state-driven scientific and research operations the U.S. used in the 1950's and 1960's, which is precisely why it is doing so fucking well.
The myopia of this country legitimately astounds me at times. Anyway, China isn't special the same way the U.S. wasn't special even in the 1950's - they just throw the most money at their specific problems, same as we used to.
