Not to mention that sea level rise isn't drowning the islands like fucking atlantis, the real problem with sea level rise is storm surges and sea water seepage. The first means you can't just make a thin and cheap wall and expect to be fine, but it has to be massive and should it ever fail would lead to catastrophe instead of the slow moveout without it. The second means walls don't even really work if you leave a path for the water to get in, the islands aren't really sinking literally, but the salt waster is destroying their farms and plants and erosion is destroying their homes, a wall doesn't do much against that either.
>It's more or less what places like the Netherlands did.Some of the walls the dutch built are bigger than some of the islands. It simply doesn't make sense to build massive walls like that to protect few houses or a farm, while it does make sense to protect a country of millions.
