>>13499155>What is mathNobody knows for sure. Read Richard Courant's book, "What Is Mathematics?" to get a broad idea. Basically it's the study of number and structures in a very general sense.
>and why is it hard?Because it gets to the heart of reality (or a very close approximation of it). Actually John von Neumann said that math is easy and empirical science is much harder since the real world isn't always as neatly structured as mathematical theories and usually you can only get a rough approximation using simple math. At any rate math is much more real than the liberal arts and you can't do science without at least a bit of math knowledge. So other subjects that don't involve math as a prerequisite seem easier simply because they're mostly fairy tales detached from reality (like, what's the point of literary theory?)
>Is it just made hard because of the way it is presented?Partly, especially if you're a burger. But most kids wouldn't get it even if you explained it to them in a less retarded way.
