People cannot understand many things so they cope with it either by telling themselves stories about it. So they search for a god in some form or another. (There is an innate desire to search for a creator within human beings). They were shamed away from believing in a personal creator God so they replaced it with a computer god or a universal god (the other definition of universal where it means the universe is seen as a god). Except instead of calling the computer god a god, the atheistically minded call it a simulator and call this world a simulation or perhaps even put the simulation in the role of the computer god. Even the most atheistic have a god whether or not they want to admit it.
