Hospitals get paid about ~$30-50 for each vaccine administration by medicaid (at least in my state). Insane reimbursements for this shit. $50 dollars for the lowest of low nurse to stick your arm, bandage you and watch you for 10 minutes. You can imagine the margins.
I can't think of any other easier and cheaper way that they're getting money right now. Besides the basically fraudulent tests we do lel. We charge $180 for a COVID test to insurance/the state. Why do you think there was such a push back against at home testing?
We don't even have to pay for the vaccine we just add the CPT for the physical vaccine itself with the SL modifier (i.e 91300 SL for pfizer if I recall correctly).

Each administration of the vaccine is $45.87, no matter the brand.
So either Moderna or Pfizer pay $91.74 ($91.74 = $48.87 * 2 administrations) for MEDICAID PATIENTS.
Sometimes medicaid pays like 1/10th of a procedure's actual cost, which is unfair to the doctors in all honesty. Sometimes the overhead for treating them is more than we get back from the state.

Because the vaccines were created when the various variants such as delta did not exist yet and hence they were not designed for them and are less effective against them. The push for a 3rd dose is to improve efficiency against the new variants. I know the $$$ argument is nice but the governments aren't gonna pay a bunch just for nothing, not to mention if the companies get too uppity they can just nationalize them and take over

Except they really are. Have you not seen the leaks of the Pfizer contracts? Governments have to pay no matter if they deliver or not.

Rather, I should say the state reimburses us $91.74 for each full administration of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine.
