There have probably been many other people who were just as smart, or even smarter, but who have been forgotten due to a mix of sociocultural factors and pure chance. E.g. pic related was an impoverished kid from africa who made some of the greatest advancements in computer science and physics of the last decades, but due to racism and poverty, his work hasn't received as much attention as it should, and he was actually denied a Ph.D due to his race and sued his university for it.

You realize that his combinatoria machine shit was just an extremely small facet of his work? Leibniz is more so known for his work on pure mathematics, philosophy, as well as the computer science/engineering stuff you mention. Also, he did some work on linguistics, philosophy of mind, and philosophy of language.

When did he write his papers? Also, the likelihood is that if someone's not getting citations on their papers, they really aren't that useful for anything. It has nothing to do with racism. Though people like to chant it to make themselves feel better for being a loser.
