I don't know much about myelination dynamics, but probably thicker sheaths and a higher percentage of myelinated surface area for axons which are used more frequently.
My advice is: don't bother looking into it too much. Id assume they are making an appeal to science so that readers will feel more control over their brain/mental abilities. Once you believe that your brain is still capable of adapting in adulthood, there is no point learning more about the brain.
That is, the return on time invested (for researching how the brain works) decreases rapidly, if you are only interested in increasing productivity
