it seems that i have an iq of 134 so i could be part of mensa and yet i'm an absolute retard who can barely tie his shoes, i have extreme difficulties in figuring out the most basic tasks that normies perform effortlessly and i can't even drive properly

Any example? Did you have poor grades at school despite trying? Do you sometimes not understand something you read? Do you have trouble listening to the news? Do you have trouble following directions or instructions? Do you have a hard time understanding jokes?

it's difficult to say because i have never tried, but probably yes
i had difficulties in focusing and procrastinated studying or doing homework up untill the night before a test usually that being said i'm not sure i would've performed much better even with more time spent on it

yes, i either don't hear or don't understand what people tell me to do if i'm doing a job or end up not remembering it

i asked but he never actually gave me a proper diagnosis, saying that being aware of it would make it worse somehow (self reinforcement or something)

this, there are many ways to influence the results otherwise (of course there is room for misconduct in the clinical setting but it provides a standardized environment and method for administering the tests)

It's not meant to be a decisive measure. Like anything statistical you can look at it's predictive power and correlation on large scale and when you hold as many other variables constant.

In the context of predictive power if you overestimate the correlation it fails and if you underestimate the correlation it's much more successful than you believe.

The theory of this thread, aka is iq bullshit, is dumb because it does have proven and reliable predictive power. If you expect that prediction to be perfect every time at life outcomes you are using it wrong. If you expect it to not work for prediction you are also wrong and probably cherry picking in either case.

To laymen this is what IQ testing means so when I say "IQ is bullshit" this is what I'm trying to discredit. OP is clearly under this impression as well. You are right though that it does have predictive power so in that case it isn't bullshit.

As of now at least in some regards biological brains are the most complex technology we have access to. So to predict the outcomes of genetics and environment on the output adult brain is difficult. How useful is a single dimension number at rating a brain? Well, for that use, as a simple measure it's pretty great that it does work. Hopefully in the future we will have better measures but people who hate IQ measure should develop a better predictive function because IQ is the best one in all of psychology. In the future we will definitely have better measures though that will predict intellectual capabilities even better.

The criticism of IQ is basically bias perception. Any function we can find that predicts outcome is something you can easily measure the reliability of. There is no debate about it and if there is criticism it should be on finding better/worse functions assuming you want to understand the factors that map to human outcome.

It should be noted such a function is not bias. You can create narratives for why, such as it's obvious higher socio economic status can also be predictive but you can also measure this with statistics and the interplay.

IQ is just a variable that is useful in correlations and with a measurable predictive power same as any other measure. Any fault of IQ would be about better / worse ways to create a variable. It's largely stupid to argue if IQ does blah blah blah. You map a test to a one dimensional variable and can see it's correlations over time and how it works. The debate is usually over the human narrative people create from this measure and variable. Such as people positing its worthless or that a score means they will end up with x career etc. Aka nonsensical shit that's subjective.

Same anon, I did a WEIS IV test at a psychologist a few weeks ago that gave 142 IQ but I still feel like a retard who’s both shit in daily life stuff and couldn’t understand stuff the majority of the class could in my math and physics studies (that I failed thrice), actually always thought I was very average or even below average IQ before I got tested

High IQ people try to do everything with their brain. In reality, many things are better performed by reflex / muscle memory and your actions will be better and smoother if you don't overthink it. Try learning an instrument with good rhythm and you will realize that it is impossible to be good while thinking about every note. Then apply this to other tasks.
