I'm heading into my last year of a chemistry PhD and need some opinions
My thesis is essentially split 70/30 between two topics.
70% is on industrially relevant chemistry for the coatings industries. The synthesis is laborious and I'd likely get paid to watch paint dry, but I could deal with it from 9-5.
The other 30% is on new high temperature chemistry. I'm excited about this topic and think that the chemistry could be optimized further. I will not be able to continue exploring this topic in industry.
I'm on the fence with what I should do here. I think I'd do well in industry, but a postdoc focused on complimentary chemistry might help me develop the technology once I become a PI.
What do you think?
