Natural beauty of a woman in her lifetime is only for a certain number of years. Men have longer years in general. A woman used to breed when she was young, and likely kept breeding until death from complications or childbirth. Men don't face those consequences and could breed until running into other causes of natural death, like bad nutrition from teeth rotting out. A man that is fittest to breed for the longest amount of time would be selected, in multiple ways. One of which is scaring off or killing other competitors by being a fit male.
I don't know how long it will take for woman to adjust to the new parameters in society. There is huge amount of resources used in ovulation cycles, a kind of predetermined genetic frontloading on women. There is also the affectations of birth control introducing a new spanner into the works as well.
